1940

On February 15, 1940, the recently-completed General Mills cereal plant had a major fire. The W. S. Grattan and several companies battled the blaze for hours. As water poured down from the hoses, the bitter cold temperatures turned it to a thick ice covering the firefighters, engines and the fireboat.
